All Diving Support Vessels (DSV) include a rescue vessel for their divers in the event of an emergency, normally in the form of a Hyperbaric Lifeboat (HLB). These are normally an enclosed motor propelled safety craft with a hyperbaric chamber, which is connected to the DSV's saturation system
Certain countries require a rescue contingency to include the reception of HLBs onshore in the event of an emergency. Such contracts are already in place for some of the major clients working in the North Sea.
The NHC's unique facilities are one of the very few in the world that offer Hyperbaric Lifeboat Reception capability and medical care. In the event of a Hyperbaric Lifeboat emergency, the NHC's 24 hour on call team of Life Support & Dive Technicians assist in the mating of the HLB to the NHC's 16 man Saturation Dive System.
As part of a HLB Reception contract, the NHC provide transportation and craneage of the HLB to the NHC as well as providing a Life Support Package (LSP) and suitable HLB cradles. The LSP is connected to the HLB to supply gas, power, heating, cooling, and communications to the divers as well as monitoring the Life Support Systems of the HLB. A range of inter connecting mating flanges and a 40 tonne overhead crane are available to assist in mating up of HLBs to a length of 10.5 meters and 25 tons.
